Can you make an island for the kitchen I already have?
Yes. We make islands on their own for kitchens people are keeping, as well as part of a new kitchen. Send us photos of the room, your doors and your worktop, with rough sizes, and we will tell you what would work.
Does a kitchen island have to match the rest of the kitchen?
No. Several of ours are a different colour from the kitchen around them: deep blue under a thick oak top in Christchurch, deep blue in a putty grey kitchen near Bath, and dark against pale grey in Corfe Mullen. We do our own painting, so an island can match or stand apart.
Can a kitchen island have a sink, a hob or seating?
Yes. Our island in Ringwood takes the sink, the islands in Broadstone and Sandbanks take the hob, and near Bath the island ends in a curve with seats along it. For the water, gas and power, we can arrange qualified trades, or work with your own.
How much space do I need for a kitchen island?
It depends on the room and on how many people use the kitchen at once. We measure the room and draw the island with the space around it, so you can see that it works before anything is made. If the room is tight, a peninsula joined to one run can give you much of the same; see our guide to peninsula kitchen layouts.
How much does a bespoke kitchen island cost?
It depends on the size, what goes into it (a sink, a hob, storage or seats), how it is built, the finish and the top. Send us a few photos and rough sizes and we will give you a guide price before anyone visits.
Who makes and fits the island, and is it guaranteed?
We do. It is made in our workshop in Poole and fitted by our own team. We guarantee it against defects in manufacture for 10 years after the work is completed, and the hinges and runners also carry their manufacturer’s own guarantee. The full terms are in our terms and conditions.
